Frequently Asked Questions

What is your photography style?
I am drawn to emotions and closeness. I love to see the real you and to capture your love not in a “pinterest posey” way but create your unique images. As far as my shooting and editing style, it is a mix of classic and photojournalism. I love the hands off approach and documentary style during most of your day. When photographing your wedding party and your alone session portraits, I love capturing natural moments and using as much natural light as available.

What is your experience? How many weddings have you shot?
I have always loved photography and used to shoot landscapes and travel. I started my wedding photography business in 2008. I have shot well over 200 weddings, and nearly as many engagement and portrait sessions. My love of travel has greatly influenced my aesthetic—as a Lehigh Valley destination wedding photographer, I’ve even traveled worldwide to document love stories. I’ve gained confidence and knowledge. Mainly, my style and approach developed to what it is today.

Can you hold our date for us? What is your booking policy? What are your payment terms?
Your date is booked only with a signed contract and a non-refundable retainer, which is 25% of your total package cost. To be fair to all potential couples, I cannot hold your date or pencil you in. The final balance of your package is due 30 days before your wedding day. You may split up the payments or just do one final one.

Do you travel outside the Lehigh Valley to shoot weddings?
Yes! I will travel anywhere in the US and the world. As both a local photographer and a Lehigh Valley destination wedding photographer, I offer my services here in PA and worldwide wherever your love story takes us. I’ve had the opportunity to document weddings in Italy, Germany, Dominican Republic, and Hawaii. In the US, I have traveled to different states even for engagement sessions.

Do you offer custom packages? How about less/more hours of coverage?
Yes, absolutely. I can customize anything to make sure the final package fits your needs perfectly. I also offer an intimate wedding package that is perfect for a smaller wedding day with an abbreviated coverage.

Do you have a second photographer?
Yes, I shoot the majority of my weddings with a second photographer. I partner with 4 wonderful photographers who also have their own wedding photography businesses. I usually know 2-3 months in advance who will be documenting your day with me, so you feel comfortable knowing that your day will be covered.

Do we need to feed you and your second photographer at our reception?
Weddings make for a very long day. My second photographer and I are working usually since earlier in the day until late. Feeding us is very much appreciated and recommended…just so that no one faints during all the festivities.

How long does it take to be able to see our wedding gallery?
I know how exciting it is to know that you will be able to relive your wedding day through your online gallery! Sharing with family and friends is also fun. As part of my premier service, I offer a sneak peek within one week after your wedding day on Maggie J Photography facebook page. The full gallery is delivered 6-8 weeks in a secure online gallery.

We see mainly color images in your galleries. Will we have black and white pictures? Can you change the black and white back into color?
Yes, absolutely. Black and white is classic. To me, it focuses on the moment and the people. You will actually have a nice mix of color and black and white photos throughout the day in your gallery. The photos delivered in your gallery in black and white are available only as that. If you have a preference to have most color or most black and white pictures, please let me know ahead of time. I happy to accommodate your request.

How about my shot list and posed family portraits?
To be completely honest, I prefer not to work with a shot list. However, if there are certain photos that you must have, please feel free to share those with me. Best example is that one photo that has been re-created in all the family weddings, etc. Family is a big part of most weddings. This is one of those special few days when everyone is together, dressed up, and happy. It is THE perfect opportunity for family portraits. We discuss these before your wedding day and create a list of groupings you want captured. These can be formal portraits in a church or at your ceremony site or more relaxed photos taken in a location you pick.

Our families love to take pictures. Do you mind?
Nope. I don’t mind at all. However, I do “manage” the experience during family formals to ensure we maximize the time allowed and get your guests to the cocktail hour as soon as possible. Having said that, please consider an unplugged ceremony for your wedding. This means no picture taking by the guests. It allows everyone the time to truly witness your ceremony and the vows you promise each other.

We have an album in our package. How does the design process work? Can we add pages and upgrade the cover? How long will it take to have the album?
After receiving the link to your gallery, you will also receive instruction on how to pick your favorites for your album. Once I receive your favorites, I will design your album and email you a link with the album proof. At this time, you will be able to make photo swaps. You will have 3 free revisions.
Yes, absolutely, you will have an opportunity to add pages and upgrade your album in size and cover style. All the albums I offer are printed and gorgeously put together in Italy. The design and approval process varies since it depends on the time you take to send over your requested changes. Once you approve your final design, and the files are uploaded to the creative team in Italy, it takes 4-6 weeks for the album to be delivered to you.

Can you provide a certificate of insurance to my venue?
Yes! I have business and liability insurance and can provide a certificate of insurance to your venue. Please make sure to reach out to me with such request 1-2 months prior to the wedding, to have the certificate prepared and delivered in a timely manner. I will also need a contact person at your venue to deliver the certificate to, usually an email will work.

Do you back up all of our photos?
During your wedding day, my camera backs up every image to a second card to ensure proper back up while shooting. After your wedding, I download your photos to 3 different hard-drives. Once your photos are edited, I keep a full-res gallery on an external hard-drive, and, your gallery serves as the second backup. Your USB is another. I strongly recommend that you also create one more USB backup in case you misplace the original. All the raw files will be deleted one year after your wedding day. The edited jpegs will be safely stored as described.

We have an engagement session booked. What happens to those photos?
In an effort to stay “green” and to limit the use of USBs, paper, and other resources, your engagement session images are delivered via a download only. When you receive your invitation to view the gallery, you will also see the steps to download. I do encourage you to backup all the photos you download from your gallery. Make sure to give it enough time… these are all high-res images.
