The Ultimate Guide to Engagement Photos | Maggie J Photography

Recently engaged? Congratulations! One of the exciting next steps is to find the best Allentown wedding photographer and book your engagement session. There’s nothing I love more than meeting unique couples and getting to know them better through these photo shoots. Every couple has a distinctive personality and story—I’m just here to document it.

When you book a wedding with Maggie J Photography, a complimentary engagement session is included in your package—so, let the storytelling begin! Engagement shoots are always a fun adventure, but they tend to raise a few questions before we get started. Today, I’ve got the ultimate guide to engagement photos. Put your mind at ease before the camera starts clicking! Read on to spark ideas and learn more about your engagement session:

“Where will we go?”

Setting is a key component to expressing your personality in an engagement shoot. Luckily, with over 200 engagement sessions under my belt, I can make a recommendation or two for a great spot that suits your style. Whether you’re seeking organic outdoor photos, gorgeous oceanside images, or urban vibes… we can find the perfect spot for you. Choose a location that feels easy for you as a couple—somewhere that speaks to you and puts you at ease with each other. Take a look at this list for inspiration:

  • Outdoor park
  • Woodsy area
  • Beach
  • Vineyard
  • Farm
  • Library
  • Hometown
  • Neighborhood
  • At-home session

“What do I bring to my engagement session?”

At Maggie J Photography, I choose to focus on the couple’s natural interactions together more than on objects or props. That being said, sometimes having props can make couples feel more at ease in front of the camera. They can also provide variety in your gallery. Instead of going overboard on props, consider bringing a few items that will help bring out your natural self:

  • Blankets: what’s better than a cozy engagement session? Throw a knit blanket around both of your shoulders to encourage sweet, intimate moments with your fiancé.
  • Layers: most engagement sessions don’t include multiple wardrobe changes. However, it’s easy to get a few different looks by dressing in layers. Bring a favorite scarf or sweater, and a jacket for him. Quickly swapping accessories will give you options, without having to do a full wardrobe transformation.
  • Personality: no matter what, bring your own personality to the shoot. Be confident; be yourself. My job is to document your love story as it unfolds, capturing the essence of who you are as a couple. Trust me, engagement photos always turn out best when couples are willing to let their guard down and let their unique character shine through.
  • Don’t forget: your dog(s)!

Thanks to awesome couples like you, Maggie J Photography is proud to be known as the best Allentown wedding photographer. From engagement sessions to wedding day, my journalistic approach documents the authentic moments and emotions of your love story.

Ready to schedule your own engagement session? Let’s be awesome together! I’d love to find a unique location and capture photos of the moments that make you you. I can’t wait to meet you.
